Students are working on a creative oral presentation assignment - hoping to see some really fun and creative approaches. We should finish this unit by the end of November and then move into Canada and World War Two. <br /><br />CHW 3M - We are currently studying the civilizations of Ancient Greece and then Ancient Rome - both roots for our modern Western Civilization (especially all things Greek!) Consistent attendance and participation in daily lessons is especially important to attaining and maintaining good marks so be sure to 'rev' yourself up for the next five weeks or so before the holidays!<br /><br />CLN 4U - just finishing our unit on Rights and Freedoms. Test tomorrow.<br />Bonus Question: What Prime Minister was responsible for the patriation of our Constitution in 1982? This should take 2 - 3 weeks. Reading the opening pages of "A tale of two cities" by Charles Dickens really puts into perspective the themes of this unit.<br /><br />CLN 4U - Well - we keep plugging along here - a little bogged down in our Constitution and Charter laws but it does make for some interesting cases! Many of you are not doing daily reading / homework / review etc and this may catch up with you in a negative way - get in a routine of doing work at home every day as this is good practice for university!<br />Be sure to come for extra help and explanation when needed - no need to operate in ignorance of the law ( is that a law?)<br /><br />CHW 3M - Finishing up our examination of the ancient civilizations of the near East -Mesopotamia and Egypt - test is scheduled for this Thursday so that you can all participate in the DSS Hallowe'en Dance on Friday afternoon - unit summative assignments are due next Tuesday ( that is November 2) Be sure to put forth good efforts here as this is a major assignment for your mid term mark.<br /><br />MONDAY, 1 NOVEMBER 2010 IS NOT A SCHOOL DAY FOR STUDENTS: PA DAY (PD DAY)<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/5235643193720894564-2416017384726244617?l=rdykstra.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Ms. Dykstrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12416137224111992197noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5235643193720894564.post-73527768077062834082010-09-23T13:14:00.002-04:002010-09-23T13:23:33.728-04:00CHC2D - test is done and both major unit assignments are completed and handed in - already in our second unit - Canada and WWI - talk with parents and grandparents about any family history regarding this time period - you may have had great grandparents / relatives who played a role in this pivotal twentieth century event - if so, share it with the class.<br /><br />CHW 3M - in the middle of the summative unit research assignment - be sure to follow all of the instructions on the assignment sheet and submit the finished product at your best ability - due next Friday, October 1, 2010. <br />Also - unit test is tomorrow - Friday, Sept 24. If you write "HISTORY about rocks ... ROCKS " on the top of your test paper I will give you a bonus mark! It will be given out in class Friday and this gives you the weekend to work on it. Test for the unit is set for next Tuesday, Sept. 21 / 2010 so make sure your notes are complete and any questions you have get asked and answered.<br /><br />CLN 4U - hoping to wind up the heritage unit (#1) by the end of next week - the summatives for this unit will be coming up including a test and a research assignment (some research time given) so be sure to keep some open time for next weekend!<br /><br />CHW 3M - unit one assessment of learning will include the map and timeline assignment which is due on Monday, Sept. 20 / 2010. With a couple of days of lessons done we will start to get into the "nitty gritty" of each course.<br /><br />CLN 4U - Be sure to put forth best efforts in the "Philosophers" assignment which is due for Monday<br /><br />CHC 2D - great start - we have started our first unit which is a "review" of grade 8 content - such a long time ago - this is our shortest unit and I hope to have it done by next Friday so be prepared for a quiz then - more info to follow next week<br /><br />CHW 3M - Time - who knew that one class could actually feel like a real eon!
